Learning Objective: To understand what fairy tales are, how they can be recognised and
what their purpose is.
A fairy tale is a fictional story. It can be a folktale,
legend, myth, cultural story as long as it is
fabricated. They usually contain easily identifiable
“bad” and “good” characters along with some
element of magic or mystery. They usually begin
with “once upon a time” and end with “and they
lived happily ever after”.
