When using home in a sentence you use it with at

Arrive and get

Arrive in:

We say ‘arrive in’ when referring to countries and towns.

We do not say ‘arrive to’

  • They arrived in Spain at 2pm. (not They arrived to Spain at 2pm.)
  • My grandma arrived in India last week.
  • Sue arrived in Japan yesterday.
  • Phil is going to arrive in Italy tomorrow evening.
  • My parents will arrive in Paris on Monday morning.
  • What time will Ben arrive in Madrid?


Arrived at:

We say ‘arrive at’ when referring to other places.

We do not say ‘arrive to’

  • We arrived at the hotel at 3pm. (not We arrived to the hotel at 3pm.)
  • Sue arrived at Manchester airport at 7:30.
  • What time will you arrive at the train station?
  • Did you arrive at work late?


Get to / got to:         

We say ‘get to / got to’ when referring to a place.

  • What time did you get to the hotel?
  • What time did you get to the museum?
  • What time did you get to the mosque?
  • Did you get to Paris okay?
  • I got to Morocco safely.


Get home / Arrive home:

When saying get home/arrive home we do not use a preposition (in ,at, to)

  • I arrived home
  • I got home
  • I was tired when I arrived home.
  • I was tired when I got home.
  • Did you arrive home safely?
  • Did you get home safely?
