Study Guide : Human Reproduction

 

In humans a sperm is required from a male and an egg cell

from a female. Once these fuse together during fertilization,

an embryo is formed.

 

Male reproductive system


 

The human male reproductive system has different parts to

a female reproductive system.

This diagram illustrates the different parts of the male

reproductive system.

Function

Testes

They have a very important function in the male reproductive system.They produce hormonesThey produce sperm

Sperm ducts and glands

The ducts help carry the sperm and the glands produce fluid, which when mixed with the sperm help produce semen

Penis and Urethra

The penis is used to remove urine and sperm from the body. The urethra carries urine out of the body and helps ensure that semen and urine do not mix.

Ovaries

They contain the egg cells and are released from the ovaries

Uterus and cervix

The uterus can also be called the womb, this is a muscular bag like structure with a soft inner lining.The cervix is muscular ring separating the vagina and the uterus

Oviducts

The oviducts help connect the ovary to the uterus and can be called the fallopian tubes

This is a muscular tube which is where eggs are released during menstruation and where the penis is inserted during sexual intercourse
