Learning Objective: To understand what a formal letter is, what they are

                                        used for and how to create one successfully.



What is a Formal Letter? What are they used for?


1. A formal letter is a letter that is written for a formal reason. They are often

    addressed to someone you don’t know, like a manager of a company, a

    newspaper editor or politician.


2. They are often written to ask for information, to give  information, to

     complain, to apply for a job and many  other formal reasons.


3. When you write formal letters you must remember that there are rules of

     presentation. You should always include, dates, names and  addresses also

     specific terms of greeting and formal and sophisticated vocabulary.

     Remember to lay it out in organised paragraphs as well.
