Learner Guide

Main Character

Learning Objectives: To be able to identify the main character in a story

and to be able to describe the main.

A main character is the most prominent character in a text. Every story must

have a main character. These are the characters who are most affected by

what happens in the story. We can learn about characters from how they are

described, what they think, how they feel, and how they behave.

Example 1

In a the children’s fairytale “Little Red Riding Hood”, Little Red Riding Hood is

the main character.

Explanation 1

This is because she is the person we follow throughout the story, the one who

is most affected by what happens and we learn about her the most through the

description that she is a young naive girl who selflessly visits her poorly

grandma with cookies.
