Energy Resources and their Uses

improve-tution1

  • non-renewable energy resources = fossil fuels and nuclear fuels (uranium and plutonium) = natural resources which form underground over millions of years= they will run out one day= they are burnt to provide energy = they all do damage to our environment
  • 3 main fossil fuels are: coal, oil and natural gas
  • Renewable energy resources = will never run out = energy is renewed as it is used = do damage the environment but in a less nasty way = don’t provide as much energy as unreliable
  • Renewable energy resources are: sun, wind, water waves, hydro-electricity, bio-fuel, tides, geothermal
  • Fuel is used for transportation
  • 1. Non-renewable energy resources: petrol and dieseloil, coal is used in some steam trains to boil water → steam.

    2. Renewable energy resources: vehicles which run on bio-fuels

  • Energy resources used for heating homes:
  • 1.Non-renewable energy resources: natural gas → heat water → pumped into radiators, coal used in fireplaces, electric heaters = electricity generated from non-renewable energy resources

    2. Renewable energy resources: geothermal heat pump = geothermal energy resources to heat buildings, solar water heaters = sun to heat water = pumped into radiators.
