Place Value .

Polygons are 2D shapes that have straight lines and are closed (The lines are connected).

You can have regular polygons, that have sides that are all the same length, or irregular polygons, with different length sides.

This is a regular hexagon. It has six sides which are all the same length and connects up.

in order to work out which value represents what, we can use a place value chart.

This is an irregular hexagon. It is also a shape with six sides, but the sides are different lengths.
Triangles

All triangles are polygons but there are more types than just regular and irregular triangles.

This is an equilateral triangle (regular). All the angles inside are 60o and the sides are the same length

his is an isosceles triangle. Two of its angles are the same and two of its sides are the same length.

This is a right-angled triangle. There is one 90o angle inside it.

This is a scalene triangle. None of its angles are the same and none of its sides are the same
