• day one complete rotation of the earth which takes 24 hours
• sun doesn’t really move. When places facing the sun
= daytime. When places face away the sun into dark space = night time
• year = takes 365 days for earth to orbit once around the sun.
• seasons = caused by tilt of the earth’s axis .

Summer:

• when summer in UK, the northern hemisphere (everything above the equator ) is tilted towards the sun .
• northern half of earth spends more time in sunlight = longer days, shorter nights = more hours of sunshine = land heats up.
• suns rays cover a small area of land = radiation is focused = warm = summer

Winter:

• when winter in the UK, the northern hemisphere tilted away from the sun.
• north spends less time in sunlight = shorter days, longer nights.
• Suns rays cover larger area = radiation more spread out = colder = winter
