Forces and Movement

    • A push or a pull force is felt when two objects interact
    • An actual force can’t be seen, only its effects can be seen.
    • Measured in NEWTONS, N. A newton meter can be used to measure forces.
    • Act in pairs in a certain direction

Forces can make objects do 5 things:

1. Speed up / start moving – push force must be larger than resisting forces.

2. Slow down / stop moving – drag or air resistance.

3. Change direction.

4. Turn.

5. Change shape – stretching and compressing, bending and twisting.

  • Balanced forces produce no change in movement.
  • Unbalanced forces change the speed / direction of the moving objects.
