On SATs preparation.

SATs can feel stressful for both children and parents, especially when the test date gets closer and it is not clear what to revise first.

Some children work hard, but the marks still do not improve because the real gaps have not been found. One child may lose marks in arithmetic. Another may struggle with reasoning questions. Another may read the text but find it difficult to explain their answer clearly.

My approach is simple: first, we find out what is holding your child back. Then we explain it clearly and build the support around the areas that need strengthening most.

Good SATs preparation should not just mean doing more papers. Papers can be useful, but only when the child understands what they are practising and why.

At Improve Tuition, we look at the core skills behind SATs: arithmetic, reasoning, problem-solving, reading comprehension, vocabulary, inference, grammar, punctuation, spelling, timing and careful checking.

With the right support, children do not just practise more — they understand more, make fewer repeated mistakes, and walk into SATs feeling calmer and better prepared.

“Just got my daughter’s school report. And guess what? Her strongest subject is maths. She went from grade 1 to 5! I could not believe it. We have been with G Dabhad just a year and this is the outcome. I am a very proud mom.”

“I have had Mr Dabhad as a tutor since Year 5 and I can confidently say that his service has not gone unnoticed the work I produce today. He has tutored me through all of the core subjects: English, Maths and Science.”

“Mr Dabhad is a really good teacher. He senses my weaknesses so quickly like a psychiatrist. He pin points it so easily. Even when I want to give up, I am encouraged by Mr Dabhad to keep trying.”

“My daughter has been attending Improve Tuition for about 4 months now. We started with one-to-one sessions with Mr Dabhad whom I highly recommend. His patient, gentle manner has made a huge improvement with her confidence… She is now being tutored by Naadiya who has the same characteristics as Mr Dabhad himself.”

Common questions

Questions parents ask us.

What does the Year 6 SATs assessment cover?

Year 6 SATs cover three main areas: English Reading, English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (SPaG), and Mathematics (arithmetic plus two reasoning papers). The papers are sat in May and the results follow children into secondary school.

When should preparation begin?

Most families begin in late Year 4, giving sixteen months of focused, paced preparation before the assessment. Where time is shorter, we build a tailored intensive plan around your child.

Where are lessons held?

Tuition takes place at our centre in Batley, with online lessons available for families who prefer remote support. Both formats follow the same structured plan and the same teacher-led approach.
