Light Waves

  • Light is a transverse wave which is produced from (sun, candles, fire).
  • Light travels in a straight line.
  • Light waves also transfer energy from one place to another and can also be reflected.
  • Whilst water wave travel and transfer energy by moving particles, light waves DO NOT need particles to travel. This is an advantage as the light from the sun must travel through space (no particles) to reach earth. In fact, they are slowed down by particles
  • Light travels the fastest in a vacuum as there are no particles to get in the way.
  • Speed of light in a vacuum = 3 x 10^8 m/s
