  • sun = centre of our solar system = has a huge mass = strong gravity = keeps all the planets in their orbits
  • earth is one of 8 planets which
    orbit the sun
  • planets move in elliptical orbitals
    = elongated circles
  • planets don’t give out light, only sun and stars do
  • sun gives out lots of energy = transferred by light
  • galaxy = large collection of stars
  • universe = billions of galaxies
  • light year = unit of distance = how far light travels in one year = used for measuring huge distances
